The Swift Current Bantam AAA 57’s overcame a slow start at the plate to advance to the Regina Baseball League championship game with a 7-2 win over the visiting Regina White Sox Wednesday.
Brody Alexandre got the win on the mound as he threw 95 pitches, allowing only two runs over 5.2 innings.
The game started out as a pitchers’ duel and the White Sox earned an early lead in the second when their pitcher hit an opposite field home run to open the scoring.
The 57’s bats awoke in the fourth inning when they replied with five runs to take control of the game with runs from Reed Jacobson, Mac Gross, Alexandre, Ethan Murdoch, and Dawson Schultz.
The White Sox got one run back in the sixth, but Murdoch came on in and got the final four outs without allowing a hit to secure the win.
Schultz singled home Alexandre and Kelsey Rokochy brought Schultz around to score as the 57’s posted two insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth.
The Bantam 57’s will now host the Regina Buffalos in the championship game on Wednesday.
The second seeded 57’s (15-8-0) had opened the playoffs with a 6-3 win over Alameda on Tuesday. The fifth seeded Buffalos (10-13-0) knocked off top seeded Weyburn (19-3-2) in the other semi-final Wednesday.
