The Swift Current United Soccer Club sent a full compliment of teams to the Challenge Cup in Regina over the weekend. 11 United teams returned home with one gold and two silver medals from the tournament hosted by the QC United Soccer Club.
A pair of United U10 Boys teams took part in the challenge Cup but neither team was able to make the playoffs.
The United Barbarians finished with a 0-2-1 record. They opened the tournament with a 1-0 loss to Slate on Friday. They tied Weyburn 1-1 and lost 2-0 to QC United Saturday.
The United Strikers won once and tied two games to narrowly miss the playoffs. They opened the tournament Friday with a 5-0 win over the host QC United Green squad.
They tied Prince Albert Celtic White 1-1 and then tied U10 Ginga 2-2 on Saturday.
The U10 United Girls finished without a win in Regina. They dropped their tournament opener 3-1 to Team Lawrence and then lost 2-0 to FCR Fleming Saturday. They lost 4-1 to Team Quinn to conclude the tournament.
The U12 United Thunder played in Division I and won once in three attempts. They opened the tournament with a 3-1 loss against FCR Naranja on Saturday afternoon. They rebounded with a 4-3 win over FCR Blue Saturday evening. The United Thunder were eliminated Sunday with a 2-1 loss to FCR Navy Sunday morning.
The U12 Boys United Lightning finished with a 1-2 record in Division II at the Challenge Cup. They opened the tournament with a 3-2 win over Ebony on Friday evening. They lost 2-1 to YUFC and 2-0 to Celtic White on Saturday.
The U12 United Girls finished with a 2-1-1 record and made a playoff appearance. They won their tournament opener 2-1 Friday over Saskatoon’s Aurora Dynamite. They tied QC United U11 1-1 and then defeated FCR Sinclair 2-0 on Saturday. The U12 Girls faced the Weyburn Lil Red Devils in Sunday’s semi-final and lost 2-1 to conclude the weekend.
The U14 Boys placed second out of eight teams at the Challenge Cup. They opened the tournament with a 6-1 win over Yorktown FC. They added a 7-2 win over FCR Royal and a 5-0 win over FCR Indigo on Saturday. The U14 United Boys met Excelsior FC in Sunday’s final and lost 4-3 to bring home silver.
The U14 United Girls finished with one win and two losses in Regina. They dropped their opener 2-0 to QC United U12 HP. They rebounded Saturday to defeated QC United 2-0. The U14 United Girls were eliminated in a 3-2 loss to the Weyburn Jr Red Devils on Sunday morning.
The U16 Boys placed second out of four teams in Regina. They won their opener 6-1 over FCR Chrome before losing 3-1 to Regina Excelsior FC. They defeated Saskatoon’s Hollandia Sirman 3-0 on Sunday to reach the final. The U16 United Boys rematched with Excelsior in the championship match and lost 1-0 to win silver.
The U16 Girls won all three of their games to win gold in Regina. They won their opener Friday 2-0 over the host QC United team when striker Jannae Carlson scored both goals. They defeated the Brandon Cougars 4-1 on Saturday to advance to the championship match. MJ Anderson and Allison Wall each scored twice in the win. The U16 United Girls faced QC United again Sunday and got a pair of goals from Bryn Haubrich to win gold.
The U18 Girls played two games against Moose Jaw’s Excelsior FC on Saturday. They won the opener 1-0 when Ali Vance scored the only goal. They also took the rematch 3-1 when Amy Neufeld scored twice and Vance added her second goal of the day.
United Soccer Club teams will be in Saskatoon this weekend for the Eastside Copa tournament.
