The Swift Current Comp. High School track and field team got its season underway with an intra-squad meet on Wednesday and then was in Moose Jaw on Saturday to compete against 37 other teams at Gutheridge Field.
The Colts and Ardens finished the meet with 302 points, second behind only Moose Jaw AE Peacock out of 38 teams.
Highlighting the meet was a record breaking jump from Brielle Wall, who cleared the bar at 1.61 metres to move past the previous record of 1.60 metres in Midget Girls High Jump. Wall also placed second in Long Jump with a 4.53-metre leap.
Kalea Sauder got the Ardens to the top of the podium with a win in the Junior Girls 80 Metre Hurdles in 12.45 seconds. She added a second-place showing in High Jump, clearing the bar at 1.57 metres. The sophomore athlete added a third-place finish in the Long Jump with a top jump of 4.68 metres.
Ardens’ rookie Jannae Carlson added a win in the Midget Girls 400 Metres in 1:08.69.
Eric Wiebe was an event winner for the Colts when he topped the Senior Boys 100 Metre Hurdles in 15.61 seconds.
Ally Janzen finished the 200 Metres in 29.99 second to place second amongst Junior Girls sprinters, while Aleah Nickel finished the Junior Girls 800 Metres in 2:42.67 to place second.
Jenna McDonald placed second in the Junior Girls 100 Metre Dash in 13.52 seconds. She was also second in the 400 Metres in 1:07.52.
Theo Lautsch placed second in the Junior Boys 800 Metres in 2:24.49. Lautsch added a third-place finish in the Junior Boys 1,500 Metres in 5:08.39.
Mikayla Swallow finished second in Senior Girls Long Jump with a 4.54-metre effort.
Swallow also placed third in the Discus Throw with a 24.43-metre heave.
Ashley McDonald placed second in the Midget Girls 80 Metre Hurdles in 14.30 seconds.
McDonald was third in the Midget Girls 100 Metre Dash in 13.65 seconds. She was also third in the 200 Metres in 28.27 seconds.
Wesley Abi added a third-place finish in the Senior Boys 100 Metres in 11.36 seconds.
Malisa Collier was third in the Senior Girls 800 Metres in 2:57.34.
Jordan Lamontagne was third in the Midget Boys 800 Metres in 2:33.92. He also finished third in the 400 Metres in 58.73 seconds.
Dalton Chaulk added a third-place finish in the Junior Boys 400 Metres in 57.46 seconds.
Cole Meyer added a third place finish in the Junior Boys Javelin with a 34-metre throw.
Regan Martin returned to the track for the Colts to win the Senior Boys Quad with 2,147 points, while Branden Lemay was third with 2,088 points. Ryan Lee added a second-place finish for the Colts in the Junior Boys Quad with 1,604 points.
Tianna Knight won the Junior Girls Quad with 1,642 points, followed by teammate Maddy McCleary with 1,553 points.
The team also got top-three finishes from three relay teams. The Junior Boys were third in 51.18 seconds in the 4×100 Metres. The Ardens were second in Midget Girls 4×100 Metres in 55.92 seconds and the Ardens were third in the 4×400 Metres in 5:14.49.
The Colts and Ardens will be at home this weekend for their annual SCCHS Invitational Track and Field Meet on Saturday.
