Duncalfe wins U Sports bronze

Swift Current’s Griffin Duncalfe won bronze with the University of Saskatchewan Huskies at U Sports Nationals over the weekend.

The Huskies won their first men’s volleyball medal since 2004 with the third-place finish in Brandon. They defeated the second ranked Sherbrooke Vert & Or 3-1 in the bronze medal match.

The 6’3” outside hitter appeared in seven matches for the Huskies this season as they finished with a 19-9 record. He played for the Nipissing Lakers for the previous two seasons.

The Huskies finished fourth in the Canada West regular season and then won bronze with a five-set win over UBC in the playoffs.

The fifth ranked Huskies opened Nationals with a 3-1 win over #4 Queens in the quarter-final. They led #8 Brandon 2-0 in the semi-final, but lost 3-2 to the Bobcats, who went on to win gold with a 3-1 win over Alberta for their first national title.
