SWAC CURLING
Junior district curling is on February 28/March 1 commissioned by Cabri (hosted at Abbey Rink). The top two teams (A side champion and B side champion) from the East and West sectionals have advanced to the SWAC championship. Teams qualifying for junior girls are Herbert, Ponteix, Leader and Cabri. Qualifying teams for junior boys are Herbert, Gull Lake, Maple Creek and Leader. Val Marie, Frontier, Leader and Maple Creek will vie for the Junior open title. Draws will be posted on SWACsports social media.

The SHSAA senior curling regionals are on February 28/March 1. The SCCHS and Gull Lake girls and mixed teams will be in Davidson.
The Gull Lake and SCCHS boys teams and Hazlet doubles team will be in Outlook. A top-two finish at regionals will punch their ticket to SHSAA provincial competitions taking place March 7/8.

SWAC BASKETBALL LEAGUES
SENIOR LEAGUE:
The last set of senior boys games determined the league playoffs. Maple Creek boys won over Gull Lake 80-47. Gull Lake top scorers: Tavaris Nelson 12, Carter Blanke 10, Lucas McMillan 6. Maple Creek top scorers: Aydan Buss 17, Alex Cruz 29, Noah Logan 8.

Shaunavon boys defeated Herbert 83-61. Shaunavon leading scorers were Grayson Arendt 23, Jaxon Justason 14. Herbert’s top scorers were Ty Dueck 22. Blake Haughian 18.

The senior boys playoffs will begin after February break. #2 Maple Creek will host #3 Herbert on Tuesday, February 24. #1 Shaunavon will host #4 Gull Lake on Wednesday, February 25.

There are a couple more games to be played in the senior girls league. SCCHS will host Shaunavon on Tuesday, February 25. Then SCCHS will travel to Maple Creek for a game on Wednesday February 26. The top two teams in the league will play for the championship on Tuesday, March 4.

JUNIOR LEAGUE:
Thursday, February 13, Shaunavon hosts Maple Creek girls and boys in the final league game. This was the last game of the league. Championship medals/plaques were awarded after each game.

Maple Creek defeated Shaunavon junior boys 72-63. Top scorers for Maple Creek: Brix Parasia 33, Dayton Cronkite 14.Top scorers for Shaunavon:Wook Jeong 25, Kaleb Adrian 17. Shaunavon girls won over Maple Creek girls 56 – 33. Shaunavon top scorers: Cadence Christensen (18 pts), Willow Salafrania (13 pts). Maple Creek top scorers: Rosalyn McWilliams (8 pts), Elaine Uribe (7 pts)

Our SWAC junior boys basketball league champions are Maple Creek and the SWAC junior girls basketball league champions are Shaunavon. Congratulations to both teams.

SHSAA SENIOR BASKETBALL PLAYOFFS
All senior basketball teams can decide to enter the SHSAA playoffs. Teams could advance through conference, then regional play to qualify for provincials. 2A Gull Lake boys and 3A Shaunavon boys (Maple Creek attending) will host conference tournaments on the March 7/8 weekend. 3A Shaunavon girls, 3A Maple Creek girls, 1A Herbert boys and 1A Frontier boys will also be involved in conference playoffs hosted outside our district on that weekend. 5A SCCHS girls/boys and 1A Herbert girls advance straight to regionals on March 14/15.

BADMINTON
Junior and senior badminton practices started before break. The sectional playoff picture is to be determined for both juniors and seniors. The number of junior and senior sectional host sites will be decided once school entry numbers are known. SWAC will possibly adjust the number of sectional tournaments to maximize competition numbers.

Junior sectionals will take place on April 12, Junior districts are May 3 (hosted at SCCHS). Senior sectionals are April 5, senior districts are April 12 (hosted at SCCHS), senior regionals are May 3 (hosted in Maple Creek) and senior provincials are May 10 in Estevan.
