Broncos double up Oil Kings

The Swift Current Broncos returned to the win column with a 6-3 victory over the visiting Edmonton Oil Kings on Wednesday. 

The Broncos took control of the game with three goals in the second period. Clarke Caswell opened the scoring as he knocked home a Carlin Dezainde pass into an empty net. Kurt Rookes sniped his first Western Hockey League goal into the top corner and newcomer Marek Rocak joined the rush for his first goal as a Bronco.

Brady Birnie tipped home a power play goal early in the third period for his 19th goal of the season. The Broncos added another goal in the same five-minute power play when Rylan Gould passed up a shot from the slot to set up Caswell for a near open net goal. The Oil Kings made a game of it with goals from Gracyn Sawchyn, Gavin Hodnett, and Blake Fiddler over a 2:04 span. Birnie sealed the win with an empty net goal to hit the 20-goal plateau. 

Reid Dyck made 35 saves to improve to 13-14–1-0. Ethan Simcoe fell to 4-2-0-0 with 35 saves as well.

The Broncos remain eighth in the Eastern Conference with a 20-17-1-1 record. Edmonton sat fifth at 22-16-1-2.

The Broncos will visit the Prince Albert Raiders on Friday.
