New-look Broncos lose in overtime

The Swift Current Broncos, with four new players in the line-up, lost 2-1 in overtime to the visiting Lethbridge Hurricanes on Friday.

Kooper Gizowski scored the overtime winner with under five seconds remaining in the three-on-three overtime period. 

After a scoreless first period, the Hurricanes took the lead midway through the middle stanza with a deflected point shot off the stick of Vojtech Port.

The Broncos tied the game midway through the third period on the power play. Parker Rondeau scored his third goal of the season on a rebound from in tight. The play was initially called no goal but was reversed after a lengthy video replay process.

Reid Dyck made 33 saves on 35 shots to improve to 12-14-1-0 in the loss. Jackson Unger made 29 saves to improve to 13-12-3-1.

The Broncos fell to 19-17-1-1 to remain eighth in the Eastern Conference. Lethbridge moved into fifth with a 22-14-1-1 record, only four points out of first with three games in hand on the Medicine Hat Tigers.

The Broncos will host the Edmonton Oil Kings on Wednesday.
