U18 AAA Wildcats sweep Gold Wings

The Swift Current Innovation Federal Credit Union Wildcats swept a weekend trip to Weyburn in the Saskatchewan Female U18 AAA Hockey League.

Saturday, the Wildcats scored two late goals to secure a 4-2 win. Charlize Hillmer scored with 3:58 remaining to take the lead and Jade Thompson added an empty net goal.

Dior Stringer led the way with a goal and an assist, while Kara Bergen also scored. Alexa Kobley, Madden Rublee, Sienna Watson, Kaylee Williams, Taylre Becker, and Raela Packet all added assists. Jordan Ottenbreit earned the win with 37 saves.

Sunday, Ashley Vezeau made 23 saves for her second shutout of the season in a 4-0 win at the Radville Arena. Reece Hawkins, Bergen, Kyla Benjamin, and Stringer all scored. Rublee had two assists, while Emily McCleary, Watson, Stevie Christiaens, Williams, and Packet all added assists.

The Wildcats moved into second spot in the seven-team league with a 7-3-1-2 record. Weyburn fell to 2-5-2-1.

The U18 AAA Wildcats will return to league action on Saturday when they host the first-place Battlefords Sharks at 7:45 p.m. and Sunday at 1:15 p.m. at S3 West Arena.
