The Swift Current Broncos got goals from four different skaters to defeat the visiting Edmonton Oil Kings 4-3 on Saturday.

Both teams scored twice during a lively opening period. The Broncos took the lead with a Luke Mistelbacher breakaway goal, his 11th of the season, only 58 seconds into regulation. Gavin Hodnett quickly tied the game with a power play goal 2:22 later. The Broncos regained the lead 1:32 later when Carlin Dezainde snapped home his 12th goal on a delayed power play opportunity. Edmonton tied the game again with a Miroslav Holinka goal on a rebound opportunity.

The Broncos took a third lead 6:47 into the second period when defenseman Grayson Burzynski jumped into the rush and snapped home his third goal of the season. The Oil Kings tied the game once again with a Gracyn Sawychyn goal, but the Broncos added a Rylan Gould power play goal on a tip-in for their fourth lead, a goal that would stand up as the game winner.

Reid Dyck made 37 saves to improve to 7-5-0-0. Alex Worthington stopped 23 saves to fall to 8–4-0-1.

“Slow start,” said Burzynski. “We didn’t play all week, so it’s kind of tough to get going. But once we got going I felt like we controlled the play and when we were in the O-zone we were working them. Overall pretty good.”

The Broncos improved to 11-6-0-0, while Edmonton fell to 8-7-1-1.

The Broncos are now 9-2-0-0 at home this season.

“I think we can match up with teams pretty well. The crowds have been great this year, the best crowds in November and October that I’ve ever had while playing here. When the crowd is great it’s easy to get energy too,” said Burzynski.

The Broncos will visit the Moose Jaw Warriors on Tuesday and then host the Warriors on Wednesday.
