It’s an exciting start to the school sports year. The five fall activities (golf, cross country, soccer, football and volleyball) have started practices and competitions. Schools are also actively recruiting officials. SWAC is willing to train anyone interested in officiating and a perk is you can make money officiating our junior and senior sports.
SWAC/SHSAA have been working hard to provide opportunities for training of new volleyball officials. The SHSAA will host an online one hour youth ‘intro to officiating” clinic on Tuesday, Sept. 10 @ 3:30-4:30. Register for zoom link at “shsaa.ca”.
Gull Lake is hosting a SWAC ‘on the court’ learn to officiate volleyball clinic on Thursday, Sept 12 from 6:30-8:30. This clinic is a beginning/novice clinic (best suited for grade 9-adults, but there is no age restriction). This is a perfect clinic if you’ve never officiated volleyball.
The first official SWAC sport playoff, golf, is Wednesday, September 18. The Cypress Hills Golf Course will be the site, hosted by Maple Creek. There are over 50 golfers (gr 9-12) interested in taking part in the competition.
There are tentative plans in place for our first “Junior Golf District” exhibition tournament. It will be held after school on Wednesday, Sept. 25 in Eastend.
The SCCHS Colts are taking part in the Moose Jaw Soccer League, the Ardens have opted out of the league this year. The Colts first league game will have them hosting Cornerstone Christian on Wednesday, September 11 at 4:30. The SCCHS Ardens will host a home tournament on September 13-14.
Football season for all our SWAC teams has begun. The Swift Current Colts football team traveled to Yorkton for their first league game. They lost that match up 20-6. Next action for the Swift Current 12-man football team is an away game on Saturday, Sept. 14 in Moose Jaw against Peacock.
SWAC has three 9-man teams that met up in Maple Creek last Friday for 3 “Football Jamboree” exhibition games.
The first official games of the 9-man league will be this Friday, September 13. Maple Creek will host Gull Lake “under the lights” and Shaunavon will host Notre Dame.
Volleyball programs are underway at our junior and senior schools. Organization for the SWAC Senior volleyball league is in the early stages. Junior leagues are organized at the local level.

Thanks to the coaches/parents who send pictures of SWAC school sport competitions to SWACsports. It helps so much to get pictures during or immediately after competitions. Feel free to share pics to 306-295-7751 or tag SWACSports in your posts. Just indicate what team is involved and when/where it took place.
