CCA returns with events in Kindersley and Unity

The Canadian Cowboys Association returned to action with rodeos in Kindersley and Unity last week.

The Southwest was all over the leaderboard at the Kindersley Rodeo on May 30 – June 1.

Maple Creek’s Kahl Wasilow was second in Bull Riding after totalling 79.5 points on Choke Hold for $1,470.

Val Marie’s Colt Kornfeld and Kade Christianson (Nanton, AB) placed second in Team Roping in 5.7 seconds for $2,448. Swift Current’s Chris Martens and Jerry Martens placed fifth in 6.9 seconds for $1,346. Waldeck’s Tyce McLeod and Grady Quam (Crossfield, AB) tied for eighth in 10.0 seconds for $122.

Mankota’s Kiera Williamson also placed second in Junior Girls Barrel Racing in 14.40 seconds for $324. Leader’s Josie Young finished sixth in 14.52 seconds for $67.

Maple Creek’s Cody Lane tied for fourth in Saddle Bronc with a 76-point ride on Fuel Money for $675. James Perrin, also from Maple Creek, tied for eighth after 73 points on Smoke & Mirrors for $54.

Three Southwest cowgirls were in the pay window in Ladies Barrel racing in Kindersley. Mankota’s Karli Cowie placed sixth in 14.150 seconds for $669. Shaunavon’s Haley Glasrud was seventh in 14.16 seconds for $418. Swift Current’s Jane Corey tied for eighth in 14.18 seconds for $83.

The Southwest had event winners from Leader, Consul, and Maple Creek at Western Days in Unity on June 1-2.

The Southwest swept the top for spots in Junior Girls Barrel Racing. Josie Young won the event in 18.29 seconds for $360. Beechy’s Allee Kapeller was second in 18.36 seconds for $270. Hazenmore’s Tess Switzer was third in 18.50 seconds for $180. Swift Current’s Maci Martens followed in 18.55 seconds for $90.

Cody Lane won Saddle Bronc in Unity when he picked up 80 points on Iron Flower for $584.

Consul’s Braden Brost and Levi Schmidt (Barrhead, AB) won Team Roping in 4.1 seconds for $2,244. Shamrock’s Kevin Turner and Colter Dunn (Ogema) were second in 5.9 seconds for $1,857. Hazenmore’s Ben Switzer and Travis Griffin (Elbow) placed sixth in 6.8 seconds for $387.

Kyle’s Chad Hantelman placed second in Steer Wrestling in 5.00 seconds for $820.

Leader’s Davis Young placed second in Junior Steer Riding with 68 points for $216.

Glasrud was fourth in Ladies Barrel Racing in 17.62 seconds for $894. Maple Creek’s Darcy Willis tied for sixth in 17.78 seconds for $415. 

Maple Creek’s Olivia Parsonage tied for sixth in Ladies Breakaway Roping in 3.0 seconds for $82.50.

The CCA is in the Southwest this weekend for the Sandhills Rodeo in Lancer on June 8-9.
