Broncos select local to open WHL Prospects Draft

The Swift Current Broncos selected local forward Carter Moen with the 17th overall pick in the WHL Prospects Draft today. He totalled 49 points in 26 games with the Swift Current U15 AA Broncos this season. The son of Stanley Cup champion Travis Moen added 14 points in seven playoff games.

The Broncos traded into the second round to select defenseman Calum Brownlee 42nd overall. The Winnipeg product had seven goals and 22 assists in 32 games with the Winnipeg Bruins U15 AAA Black this past season. He added five points in seven playoff games.

The Broncos added a second defenseman in the fifth round when they selected Nolan Pilsner. The 6’1’’ Lethbridge product had 16 points in 34 games with the Lethbridge U15 AAA Golden Hawks.

The Broncos grabbed forward Gavin Harrison. The 5’7’’ Cold Lake, AB product had 14 goals and 16 assists in 25 games with the Northern Alberta U15 Prep Extreme.

The Broncos added another defenseman in the eighth round when they selected Lincoln Ball from Sherwood Park, AB. Ball registered 13 goals and 34 assists in 34 regular season games with the Sherwood Park U15 AAA Flyers.

The Broncos drafted Gull Lake’s Jamie Kirwan in the ninth round of the WHL Prospects Draft. He had 34 points in 27 regular season games with the U15 AA Broncos and added12 points in 7 playoff outings.

Next, they drafted Michael Ross 194th overall. Ross was listed as a 5’11’’ forward from Calgary.

The Broncos used a 10th round pick to select forward Ashton McCann from Okotoks, AB.

The Broncos selected forward Brock Burch from Dubuque, IA in the 11th round.

They selected again in the 12th round and took Edmonton forward Jackson Tetreault.

The Broncos remained active in the 13th round to select defenseman Holden Sexsmith. The 5’9’’ blueliner had 17 points in 34 games with the Calgary CBHA U15 AAA Bisons.
