CCA rodeo season opens in Tisdale

The Canadian Cowboys Association opened the 2024 season with the Tisdale Rambler Rodeo on April 12-13.

The McLeod family had a hand in the top two finishers in Team Roping in Tisdale. Tuftin McLeod (Morse) and Brady Chappel (Moose Jaw) won the event in 6.1 seconds for $1,879. Waldeck’s Scott McLeod and Vincent Traynor (Delisle) were second in 6.6 seconds for $1,555. Lafleche’s Weston Packet and Payson Peterson (McCord) tied for fourth in 6.9 seconds for $745.

Beechy’s Allee Kapeller raced to an event win in Junior Girls Barrel Racing in 13.65 seconds for $405.

Two Southwest cowboys placed in the top-three in Tie Down Roping in Tisdale. Maple Creek’s Tate Beierbach was second in 11.3 seconds for $540. Waldeck’s Tyce McLeod was right behind him in third in 12.7 seconds for $360. Kobe Kmita (Weyburn) won the event in 10.7 seconds.

Maple Creek’s Kahl Wasilow finished second in Bull Riding in Tisdale with 76 points on Money Shot for $688. Jhett Wheeler (Sylvan Lake, AB) won the event with 82 points on Black Gold for $931.

Beechy’s Charlee Kapeller finished fifth in Ladies Breakaway Roping in 3.6 seconds for $356. Mia Box (Corning) won the event in 3.2 seconds.

Mallory McLeod (Morse) finished tied for seventh in Ladies Barrel Racing in 13.84 seconds for $198. Twyla Salmond (Porcupine Plain) won the event in 13.43 seconds.

Beechy’s Cody Christman was fourth in Steer Wrestling in 6.9 seconds to collect $189. Kal Klovansky (Edgeley) won the event in 5.2 seconds.

Tyler Winters (Boissevain, MB) won Saddle Bronc with a 76-point ride on Paradise City.

Justin Carrier (Arcola) and Boyd Rumbold (Wadena) tied for the win in Bareback with 70 points on Hot Ashes and Blues Clues respectively. Rumbold also won Novice Bareback with 63 points on Blue Move. Blake Rasmuson topped the Novice Saddle Bronc field with 70 points on Dirty Fergie.

The CCA will be back in action this weekend for the Kinsmen Rodeo in North Battleford on April 26-28.
