Mistelbacher leads Broncos past Hurricanes

Luke Mistelbacher had a hat trick as the Swift Current Broncos defeated the host Lethbridge Hurricanes 5-3 on Tuesday to take a 3-0 series lead.

The Broncos finished with four goals on five power play opportunities to take a stranglehold on the best-of-seven Eastern Conference quarter-final series.

Mistelbacher scored twice in the opening 6:40 and then scored the game winning goal on the power play midway through the second period. Josh Filmon and Conor Geekie also scored power play goals for the Broncos. The Broncos power play leads the WHL at 63.6 percent with seven goals on 11 opportunities.

Dylan Sydor, Sean Tschigerl, and Bradyen Edwards replied the the Hurricanes, who lost their 12th straight playoff game.

Reid Dyck added another win with 28 saves. Harrison Meneghin took the loss with 11 saves on 15 shots over 28:05. Brady Smith made 13 saves on 14 shots over the final 29:02.

The Broncos will look to complete the series sweep on Wednesday in Lethbridge.
