The Swift Current Broncos, playing their third game in as many days, defeated the host Edmonton Oil Kings 5-4 on Sunday. They trailed 1-0 and led 3-1 before the game was tied 4-4 in the third period. Conor Geekie scored the game winner on the power play to close the scoring with his 41st goal of the season.
Rylan Gould scored twice, including a shorthanded goal, his 21st goal of the season. Ty Coupland and Clarke Caswell also scored. The Broncos finished two-for-four on the power play. Joey Rocha earned the win with 28 saves.
Gavin Hodnett scored twice for the Oil Kings, followed by singles from Ty Nash and Marc Lajoie. Kolby Hay took the loss with 28 saves.
The Broncos improved to 38-21-4-2 to sit three points ahead of the Medicine Hat Tigers for top spot in the Central Division.
The Tigers have two games remaining, while the Broncos have three games left in the season. The Broncos will host the Red Deer Rebels (33-23-3-6) on Wednesday. A win will clinch the division title.
