The Swift Current Broncos were dominant in a 4-1 win over the visiting Medicine Hat Tigers for their fifth straight win on Friday.
The Broncos opened the scoring in the first period with a Luke Mistelbacher power play goal on a wrist shot from the right face-off dot, his 13th goal of the season.
The Broncos doubled the lead in the second period when Conor Geekie scored a shorthanded penalty shot goal, his 33rd goal of the season. Mistelbacher added to the lead three minutes later with a breakaway goal, roofed off the backhand.
The Tigers got on the board with a Tomas Mrsic power play goal in the third period, but Josh Filmon restored the three-goal margin with his 24th goal minutes later.
Reid Dyck made 20 saves to improve to 18-6-2-0 for the Broncos. Ethan McCallum made 27 saves to fall to 10–7-1-0.
The Broncos improved to 31-19-3-2 to remain fourth in the Eastern Conference, while Medicine Hat fell to 33-18-4-2 in second, four points ahead of the Broncos.
The Broncos will visit the Tigers on Saturday. They lead the season series with a 4-1-1-0 record.
