The Swift Current Broncos lost 5-3 to the Moose Jaw Warriors on Jan. 19. STEVEN MAH/SOUTHWEST BOOSTER

The Swift Current Broncos let a two-goal lead evaporate in a 5-3 loss to the visiting Moose Jaw Warriors on Friday.

The Broncos took the early lead when Mathew Ward scored only 41 seconds into his return to the line-up, his first game since Nov. 8, 2023. Jagger Firkus tied the game for the Warriors on a two-on-one late in the first period for his 33rd goal of the season.

After a scoreless second period, the Broncos seemingly took control of the game early in the final period with goals from Ward and Conor Geekie over a 2:28 span. The lead was short-lived as the Warriors got goals from Firkus, Ethan Semeniuk, and Atley Calvert in 6:00 of play to take the lead. They added a Firkus goal into an empty net to complete the hat trick.

Reid Dyck took the loss with 28 saves to fall to 9–6-0-0. Jackson Unger made 26 saves to improve to 22-12-0-2.

The Broncos fell to 22-17-2-2, while Moose Jaw improved to 26-15-0-2. It was a rare home loss in regulation for the Broncos, only their fourth in 20 games.

The Broncos will visit the Warriors on Friday.
