A pair of Swift Current Curling Club rinks took part in the 2023-24 U18 Open Provincials in Moose Jaw.
The Wickenheiser rink won five games to reach the U18 Girls Open Provincial semi-final.
The Wickenheiser rink was comprised of lead Clare Meachem (Cabri), second Brooklyn Schell (Richmond), third Tessa Todd (Hazlet), and skip Grace Wickenheiser (Sceptre).
The Wickenheiser rink placed second in Pool A with a 3-2 record. They opened the event with a 12-4 win over Glentworth’s Shayda Peterson before losing 9-6 to Lloydminster’s Kamdyn Bauldic. They added a 13-0 win over a rink from Avonlea and an 8-6 victory over Martinsville’s Renee Wood. They wrapped up the round robin with a 10-5 loss to Martensville’s Melissa Remeshylo.
The Southwest rink won the tie-breaker 12-3 over Wood.They opened the playoffs with an 8-1 win over Moose Jaw’s Kaylee Hogeboom, but lost 7-3 to Regina’s Simpson rink in the semi-final on Saturday morning.
The Robinson rink featured lead Braden Baumann (Gull Lake), second Troy Oakman (Swift Current), third Riley Starkey (Swift Current), and skip Ethan Robinson (Swift Current).
They finished with a 2-2 record overall at Boys Open Provincials, third join Pool B.
They won their opener 5-4 over Humboldt’s Ethan Fleischhacker. The Swift Current rink dropped their next game 8-3 to Esterhazy’s Brandon Weiss. They won their next game 9-2 over Lloydminster’s Matthew Reiniger. The Robinson rink was eliminated in a 9-6 loss to Saskatoon’s Rogan Snow.
