Swift Current’s Ethan Bailey and Kyrell Adair represented Saskatchewan at the 2023 Canada Cup in Regina.
Saskatchewan opened the tournament with a 6-0 win over Nova Scotia. Bailey hit clean-up and finished with two singles and a run batted in. He was also on base after being hit by a pitch as Saskatchewan batters were plunked on eight occasions to go along with six walks.
Friday, Saskatchewan lost to Ontario 7-2 to open the day. Bailey was zero-for-three at the plate, while Adair finished zero-for-two.
Saskatchewan dropped the rematch 8-1 that evening. Bailey singled in the only Saskatchewan run in the third inning. Adair made a relief pitching appearance in the sixth inning but was unable to get an out.
Saskatchewan rebounded on Saturday morning with an 11-8 win over British Columbia. Bailey had his best outing with two singles, one walk, two runs scored, and three RBIs.
Adair was back on the mound and helped secure the win with two scoreless relief innings as he threw 16 of his 24 pitches for strikes.
British Columbia replied with a 6-1 win in the rematch hours later.
Sunday, Saskatchewan lost 6-3 to Nova Scotia to wrap up the round robin. Adair had an RBI single in the first inning and scored a run.
Saskatchewan took on New Brunswick in the quarter-final on Sunday afternoon and won 3-2.
They dropped the semi-final 8-5 to British Columbia on Sunday evening.
Saskatchewan clinched bronze with a 1-0 win over Quebec on Monday with a walk-off run in the bottom of the seventh inning.
