Broncos acquire import defenseman

The Swift Current Broncos traded for an import defenseman on Sunday. They acquired Tomas Zizka from the Saskatoon Blades in exchange for a conditional sixth-round pick in the 2026 WHL Prospects Draft.

The 2005-born defenseman had two assists in 32 regular season games with the Saskatoon Blades in 2022-23. The Zlin, Czechia native also appeared in eight playoff games with the Blades.

His father, also Tomas Zizka, played 25 National Hockey League games with the Los Angeles Kings during a lengthy professional career that continued last season in Czechia.

The Broncos played most of last season without an import player. The CHL Import Draft will be held on July 5. The Broncos hold the 24th and 84th selections. They selected Czech defenseman Jakub Dvorak 22nd overall last year. He was recently selected 54th overall by the Los Angeles Kings in the NHL Draft after playing in his home country last season.
