Malenstyn wins Calder Cup

Former Swift Current Broncos forward Beck Malenstyn won the Calder Cup with the Hershey Bears on Wednesday.

The Bears clinched the American Hockey League championship with a 3-2 overtime win over the Coachella Valley Firebirds in the seventh and deciding game.

The 6’3’’ forward had six goals and four assists in 40 regular season games. He increased his production to four goals and four assists in 20 playoffs games.

Hershey is the AHL affiliate of the Washington Capitals.

Shaunavon’s Kole Lind had an outstanding season with the Firebirds. Lind had his best AHL season with 30 goals and 32 assists in 72 games in his first campaign with Coachella Valley. He was even better in the playoffs with nine goals and 22 assists in 26 games.

Coachella is the AHL affiliate of the Seattle Kraken.
