The Swift Current Diamond Energy Wildcats will enter the Saskatchewan Female Midget AAA Hockey League semi-final series as heavy underdogs.
The Wildcats will face the defending champion Saskatoon Stars in the best-of-five series, beginning Friday in Saskatoon in a rematch of last year’s championship series.
The two teams met for four games in January, with the Stars winning all four games. The Stars led the eight-team league with a 25-2-0-1 record, while the Wildcats were 37 points behind with a 10-10-1-7 record in fifth spot.
The Stars scored 66 more goals than the Wildcats, and allowed only 37 goals, 59 fewer than the Wildcats over 28 regular season games.
The Stars obliterated the Weyburn Wings in the opening round of the playoffs, netting 35 goals without surrounding a single goal while running their league winning streak to 17 games. Not surprisingly, they feature the five highest scoring players in the playoffs, including eight points off the stick of Grace Shirley.
The Wildcats are coming off a 3-1 series win over the Regina Rebels. Wildcats’ rookie Taylor Lind led the SFMAAAHL in regular season scoring and has added five points in four playoff games.
Game two will not be played until Wednesday back in Swift Current.
