Locals golf at home in MJT event

A full contingent of local golfers took part in the 2023 MJT Maui Jim Classic at Elmwood Golf and Country Club over the long weekend.

Kyle’s Chloe Wills placed third in the 15-19 Girls Division after improving throughout the weekend. She sat fifth after a round-one 89 on Saturday. Wills improved by four strokes on Sunday for an 85 to moved into a tie for fourth. She improved by another seven strokes on Monday with a 78.

Swift Current’s Niya Friesen placed fourth in the 15-19 Girls Division. She was third after round one with an 85 on Saturday. She trimmed one stroke to an 84 on Sunday to remain in third spot. Friesen carded an 89 on Monday to conclude the event.

Caitlin McGregor was seventh in the 15-19 Girls Division. She opened the event with a 105 on Saturday. She improved by four strokes on Sunday for a 101. McGregor improved to a 98 on Monday.

Swift Current’s Max Gehl finished fifth in the Peewee Boys Division

Gehl carded a 94 on day one to sit third. He shot a 98 on Sunday to fall to fifth. He shot another 98 on Monday.

Swift Current’s Kadyn Olfert placed ninth in the Bantam Boys Division. He carded a 94 on Saturday to open the weekend. Olfert turned things around with a 76 on Sunday to move into ninth in the Bantam Division. Olfert wrapped up the MJT stop in his hometown with an 84 on Monday.

Swift Current’s Matty Schmiess was close behind in 10th spot in Bantam Boys Division. He was 10th after round one after an 88 on Saturday. He improved to an 84 on day two. Schmiess shot another 84 on the final day of competition.

Kyle’s Jace Wills finished 13th in the Bantam Boys Division. He carded a 92 on day one. Wills shot a 93 on Sunday. Wills improved by 11 strokes for an 82 on Monday.

Swift Current’s Ryder Woods tied for 17th in the Juvenile Boys Division. He was tied for 15th on day one with an 83 on opening day. He carded an 85 on day two. Woods wrapped up the event with an 80 on day three.

Maple Creek’s Cameron Schwab placed 26th in the Juvenile Boys Division. He shot a 91 on day one. He improved by 12 strokes for a 79 on Sunday. Schwab followed up with an 83 on day three.

Swift Current’s Ayden Ross placed 42nd in the Juvenile Boys Division. He opened the three-day event with a 94 on Saturday. Ross improved to a 93 on day two.  He lowered his score to an 89 on day three.

Swift Current’s Logan Lenz finished 18th in the Junior Boys Division. Lenz carded an 87 in his opening round. He improved by nine strokes for a 78 in round two. He lowered his score to 77 in the final round.

Swift Current’s Makstr McIntyre finished 29th in the Junior Boys Division. He carded an 85 in round one and then trimmed 12 strokes for a 73 in round two to sit tied for seventh. He shot a 96 in the final round.

Swift Current’s Xzethial Dueck finished in 33rd spot in the Junior Boys Division. Dueck opened with an 84 in round one before regressing to a 93 in round two. He carded a 98 on Monday.

The Elmwood also hosted a Mini Tour event on Saturday for golfers ages 7-12.

Swift Current’s Kayden Meyer was the only entry in the Girls 11-12 Division and carded a 98.

Shaunavon’s Kellen Ross placed ninth in the Boys 11-12 Division with a score of 89 on Saturday. Swift Current’s Jace Munro placed 12th with a 98.

The next MJT Tour stop in Saskatchewan will be in Deer Valley on June 24-25.
