Bantam Broncos open second round with a win

The Swift Current Kabos Broncos got goals from five different skaters in a 6-3 win over the visiting Regina Monarchs to open the second round of the Saskatchewan Bantam AA Hockey League playoffs.

The Broncos scored three goals in the first period and never looked back as they took the lead in the best-of-three South Division semi-final series Wednesday.

Reed Jacobson had a goal and three assists, Keagon Little added a goal and two assists, and Riley Dekowny scored twice, including a shorthanded marker to help seal the win. Rhett Evjen scored a goal and an assist, while Hendrik de Klerk registered two assists. Ryan McCleary also scored and Mac Gross chipped in a single assist. Jacob Herman outplayed his counterpart in goal with 26 saves on 29 shots for the win.

The Broncos were two-for-three on the man-advantage and killed off both shorthanded situations in the win.

The Broncos were seeded second in the South Division with a 19-4-4 record, while the Monarchs were only three points behind them at 19-7-4 record. Game two will be played Friday in Regina. Game three, if necessary, will be Sunday at 5 p.m. at Fairview West Arena.
