The 17UW Junior SunDogs won silver at Sask Volleyball Provincial.

The team, coached by Darren Lehmann, Shawn Fraser and Kendra Lehmann, were the number one seed heading into Sask Volleyball’s 17U Women’s Provincial Tournament April 22-23.

Day one saw the SunDogs finish second in their pool, defeating Oxbow Black Knights (32-30, 25-17), Prince Albert Toppers Ignite (25-11, 25-12), and Huskies Premier (25-16, 25-17), coming up short only against Sask Stealth (15-25, 21-25).

Day 2, the Junior SunDogs knocked out SE Vipers Black in the quarter-final (22-25, 25-16, 15-7). They then crushed their goal of a top four finish by taking out the number two ranked Regina Cougars in the semi-final (25-17, 25-22) and headed for the gold medal final, where the Juniorr SunDogs once again faced Sask Stealth. The girls played some of their best volleyball of the season, coming up just short in the thrilling three-set match (20-25, 25-18, 14-16) to bring home Division 1 provincial silver.

The girls have one more tournament in Lanigan on May 7, where they will once again be playing the top teams in the province before heading off to Volleyball Canada Nationals in Calgary, May 14-16. Their finish at Provincials has secured the team a spot in Division 1 at the National Tournament.
