Swift Current’s Aleah Nickel helped the University of Alberta Golden Bears and Pandas win Canada West conference titles for a second straight season.
Nickel won her second straight Canada West title with gold in the 63 Kilogram Division. She won by decision over the Calgary Dinos’ Miki Rowbottom and by fall in 39 seconds over the Saskatchewan Huskies’ Angela Aalbers.
Her Pandas won the team title with 35 points, eight points ahead of the Dinos.
Swift Current’s Sebastian Marchand won silver in the men’s 76KG Division. The Huskies wrestler defeated Alberta’s Eli Fines 12-2 and lost by fall to the Dinos’ Mark Schwichtenberg.
The Golden Bears won the men’s team title with 36 points, while the Huskies were second with 29 points.
The U Sports Championship will be held Feb. 24-25 in Edmonton.
