Eakin to represent Canada again

Former Swift Current Bronco Cody Eakin will represent Canada at the Spengler Cup next week.

The Winnipeg product was one of 25 players named to Canada’s National Men’s Team for the tournament, which will be held in Davos, Switzerland from Dec. 26-31.

Eakin, 31, registered 256 points in 701 National Hockey League games with the Washington Capitals, Dallas Stars, Vegas Golden Knights, Winnipeg Jets, and Buffalo Sabres.

After playing the previous two seasons in Buffalo, Eakin has four goals and seven assists in 15 games with the SC Langnau Tigers in the National League in Switzerland.

The Spengler Cup, the oldest club tournament in the world, was last played in 2019 when Canada won its fourth title in five years. Canada will open the tournament on Dec. 26 against HC Sparta Prague.

Eakin won a World Championship with Team Canada in 2015 and won silver at the 2011 World Junior Hockey Championship.
