Swift Current’s Rhett Dekowny was named the Alberta Junior Hockey League Rookie of the Week on the strength of a five-point game last week.

The Canmore Eagles forward registered two goals and three assists during an 8-3 win over the Drumheller Dragons on Friday.

Dekowny is among the AJHL rookie scoring leaders with five goals and four assists in 11 games this season. He registered 47 points in 44 regular season games with the Warman Wildcats in the Saskatchewan Male U18 AAA Hockey League last season.

The Eagles are out to a 5-5-1 start to the season. They also feature Swift Current’s Reed Jacobson and Riley Dekowny. Jacobson scored twice in his AJHL debut after beginning the season with the Edmonton Oil Kings. Riley Dekowny has eight points in 11 games this season, his second in Canmore.

The Eagles are led by Head Coach and General Manager Andrew Milne, who played and coached for the Swift Current Broncos in the Western Hockey League.
