Southwest Golfers take part in MJT-Golf Saskatchewan OOM Championship

Eight Southwest Golfers were in Warman for the 2022 MJT- Golf Saskatchewan OOM Championships at the Legends Golf Course on August 27-28.

The event was plagued by bad weather and the first round was shortened for most of the golfers.

Swift Current’s Niya Friesen placed third in the U15 Girls Division. She was tied for fourth on day one with an opening-round 89. Friesen trimmed three strokes on day two for an 86 to finish eight strokes off the lead. Tayla Perry (Regina) won the event by four strokes with rounds of 84 and 83.

Kyle’s Jace Wills finished fourth in the Peewee Boys Division. He shot a weather-shortened 38 over nine holes on day one. Wills added a 79 on day two. Lucas Sturgeon (Saskatoon) won the division by four strokes with scores of 35 and 71.

Ethan Candow was the top Swift Current golfer in the Juvenile Boys Division. He shot a 40 on day one, followed by an 84 on day two to place 13th. Makstr McIntyre was tied for 15th with scores of 42 and 86. Ryder Woods was 20th with rounds of 42 and 88. Logan Lenz tied for 21st with scores of 42 and 89. Max Regier (Saskatoon) earned a one-shot win with scores of 36 and 74.

Paxton Wallace placed 20th in the Bantam Boys Division. He shot a 44 on day one, followed by a 93. Swift Current’s Ayden Ross was 23rd with scores of 41 and 99. Jack Maharaj (Saskatoon) won the Bantam Boys Division by four strokes with rounds of 31 and 80.

Two Southwest golfers took part in the one-day Mini-Tour Boys 11-12 Division on August 27.  Shaunavon’s Kellen Ross placed fifth out of 17 golfers with an 81. Swift Current’s Max Gehl placed 14th with a 90. Hayden Solomko (Battleford) won the event by one shot with a 76.
