Akinfiresoye wins bronze at Legion Nationals

Three Swift Current athletes participated in the Royal Canadian Legion National Youth Track and Field Championships in Sherbrooke, QC.

Olami Akinfiresoye won a bronze medal in the U18 Girls High Jump on Saturday morning. She had a top jump of 1.55 metres to tie for third place. Akinfiresoye was successful on her first four jumps before failing to clear the bar at 1.60 metres. The event was won by Jenessa Wolfe, competing out of Nova Scotia/Nunavut, who cleared the bar at 1.75 metres.

Carter Tuplin placed seventh in the 400 Metre Hurdles in 59.85 seconds on Saturday.

Tuplin also ran in the 4 x 400 Metre Relay on Sunday with Team Saskatchewan. They placed sixth in 3:36.09. British Columbia/Yukon Territory won the relay in 3:25.48.

Carter Duclos placed 10th in the U16 Boys Triple Jump. His top jump came in his first attempt when he travelled 11.05 metres. The event was won by Sayanth Arulrajan of United Tamil Sports Club with a jump of 13.36 metres.
