A total of 13 Southwest competitors were amongst the event leaders at the Sandhills Rodeo in Lancer on June 11-12.
Maple Creek’s Brady Bertram won Bareback with the only qualified ride at the Canadian Cowboys Association event in Lancer. He totalled 74 points on Sandhill City to collect $990.
The Waldeck family duo of Tyce and Tee McLeod added a win in Team Roping in 5.6 seconds for $1,722.
Maple Creek’s Kate Beierbach added a win in Junior Girls Barrel Racing in 15.48 seconds for $306. Eastend’s Juanita Humphrey followed in second in 15.57 seconds for $229.
Maple Creek’s Carter Udal tied for top spot in Novice Saddle Bronc with 57 points for $160.
Maple Creek’s James Perrin placed second in Saddle Bronc after he rode Sounds Good for 74 points to pocket $567. Nanton’s Luke Shields won the event with a 75-point ride on Cross Words.
Hazenmore’s Chanse Switzer was second in Bull Riding after a 78-point effort on Pretty in Prison for $600. Weston Davidson (Strongfield) won the event with 81 points on Ripcord. Maple Creek’s Garret Harrigan was third with 75 points on Lil Wayne for $420.
A pair of Maple Creek cowboys had top-five showings in Junior Steer Riding. Kahl Wasilow was second with 74 points for $256. Ian Briggs tied for fourth with 70 points for $42.
Kyle’s Chad Hantelman placed fifth in Steer Wrestling in 10.6 seconds for $205. Dallyn Panchuk (Saskatoon) and Scott Sigfusson (Tugaske) shared top spot in 4.8 seconds.
Waldeck’s Mallory Mayert was also fifth in Ladies Barrel Racing in 15.71 seconds for $445. Bailey McCannell (Brandon) won the event in 15.63 seconds.
The next CCA event in the Southwest will be the Frontier Days Rodeo in Swift Current on June 30 – July 2.
