Locals perform well at Mankota CCA rodeo

Locals were all over the leaderboard at the Dean Anthony Memorial Rodeo in Mankota on May 21-22.

Maple Creek’s Adam Gilchrist had a very good weekend in Mankota with two of the top four rides in Saddle Bronc. He won the event with a 79-point ride aboard Dream Catcher for $648. Gilchrist also placed fourth with 68 points on Sky Line for $324.

Maple creek’s Kahl Wasilow added a win in Junior Steer Riding with a 70-point ride for $306. Eastend’s Joe Vansandt placed third with a 66-point ride for $153.

Eastend’s Juanita Humphrey won the Junior Girls Barrel Racing Average. She won Go-Round 1 in 16.81 seconds for $180 and then placed second in the Final in 16.65 seconds for $67.50. Mankota’s Kiera Williamson tied for second in Go-Round 1 in 17.05 seconds for $112.

Locals were all over the Ladies Barrel Racing pay window, led by Maple Creek’s Kerry Maynes in second. Eastend’s Haley Glasrud and Mankota’s Karli Cowie tied for third, while Waldeck’s Mallory Mayert was fifth in average.

Mankota’s April Williamson won Go-Round 1 in 16.36 seconds for $605. Maynes was second in 16.52 seconds for $501. Cowie placed sixth in 16.8 seconds for $104.

Glasrud was second in the Final in 16.68 seconds for $250. Cowie was third in 16.69 seconds for $198. Mayert was fourth in 16.77 seconds for $146 and Maynes was fifth in 16.88 seconds for $93.

Swift Current’s Blaine Switzer finished second in Tie Down Roping Average. He was second in Go-Round 1 in 12.1 seconds for $291 and fourth in the Final in 12.6 seconds for $48.

Maple Creek’s Brady Bertram was second in Bareback with 70 points on Colored Marbles for $526.

Gilchrist also placed third in Steer Wrestling Average. He was third in the Final in 5.7 seconds for $108. Maple Creek’s William Beierbach tied for second in Go-Round 1 in 4.9 seconds for $270.

Kincaid’s Jud Colliness placed fifth in Bull Riding with a 76-point ride on High Resolution for $252.

Hazenmore’s Ben Switzer was in the pay window with a second-place finish in Team Roping Go-Round 1 with Colter Dunn (Ogema) in 6.6 seconds for $928.

Mankota’s Twila Hayes also tied for second in Go-Round 1 of Ladies Breakaway Roping in 3.3 seconds for $423.

The next CCA rodeo in the Southwest will be the Sandhills Rodeo in Lancer on June 11-12.
