SWAC had 10 athletes take part in the SHSAA Provincial Badminton championship in Rosthern. That’s one of the biggest teams SWAC has sent to provincials. Almost all teams had a great chance of advancing to the playoff semi-finals. A couple points here or there in deciding sets was all it would have taken to send four more teams to medal rounds.

Girls Doubles: Sierra Ross and Daniela Palaganas (Ponteix) won Provincial bronze. They won their pool with a perfect 3-0 record. The duo recorded wins over Oxbow (21-9, 21-18), White Fox (21-12, 23-21), and Leoville (21-9, 21-11).  In the semi-final, the SWAC doubles team lost a heartbreaker to Lloydminster (21-15, 15-21, 16-21). That placed them in the bronze medal match. They defeated Leoville again to claim the bronze medal (21-19, 21-18).

Haley Tumbach and Kelsey Klippert (Leader) had a record of 0-3.  They had losses to Campbell (7-21, 17-21), Melfort (21-19,15-21, 13-21), and Lloydminster (14-21, 16-21).

Boys Singles: Navi Signh (SC) finished with a 1-2 record. He started with a win over Regina Campbell (22-20, 13-21, 21-15), then had losses to Sturgeon Lake (19-21, 13-21) and Osler (19-21, 20-22). Navi did not advance to the semi-final.

Girls Singles: Olivia Hudec (Fox Valley) finished with a 1-2 record. The day started with a loss to Regina O’Neill (6-21, 8-21). Olivia lost a three-set match to Chamberlain (14-21, 21-15, 16-21), then rebounded with a win over Saskatoon Walter Murray (21-19, 21-16). Olivia did not advance to the playoff round.

Boys Doubles: Harit and Hasit Desai (SCCHS) finished just out of the playoffs. They opened with a loss to Regina LeBoldus (9-21, 16-21) then defeated Melville (7-21, 21-18, 21-17). Their day ended with a loss to Saskatoon Even Hardy (16-21, 9-21).

Mixed Doubles: Hailey Carlson and Connor Frohlich (SCCHS) had a 1-2 record. They had an opening round win over Regina O’Neill (21-14, 23-21), but two more losses put them out of the competition. They lost to Carrot River (17-21, 21-15, 19-21) and Lloydminster (18-21, 12-21).
