Broncos lose again to Rebels

The Swift Current Broncos dropped a second straight game to the Red Deer Rebels in a 4-2 road loss on Friday to open a three-game Alberta road trip.

The Rebels scored goals 3:11 apart in the second period. Jayden Grubbe tallied to open the scoring and Shaunavon’s Kalan Lind doubled the lead with his eighth goal of the season on a power play marker. Raphael Pelletier replied for the Broncos with his 12th goal 5:40 later. 

Former Bronco Ben King notched the eventual game winner 5:14 into the third period, his WHL leading 30th goal of the season. Mathew Ward quickly replied for the Broncos 55 seconds later with a shorthanded goal. Liam Keeler closed the scoring into an empty net for the Rebels, who improved to 26-12-2-1.

Isaac Poulter took the loss despite making 36 saves to fall to 12-12-3-1. Chase Coward improved to 11-7-0-1 with 22 saves against his hometown team.

The Broncos fell to 14-20-4-1 with their second loss to the Rebels in the past four days.

The Broncos will continue their Alberta road trip on Saturday when they visit the Edmonton Oil Kings.

Bronco Bits: Luke Mistelbacher made his WHL debut for the Broncos in Red Deer. The undrafted Steinbach, MB product has 26 goals and 14 assists in 34 games with the Eastman U18 AAA Selects this season.
