Benesh steps down from Basketball Saskatchewan

Longtime Shaunavon basketball coach and current Great Plains College SunDogs coach Mark Benesh is stepping down from Basketball Saskatchewan. He served as President for the past eight years and has been a board member for 14 years.

Benesh helped the LeBoldus Golden Suns win their first high school basketball provincial championship in 1980 and then went on to play five years with the University of Regina Cougars where he was a two-time GPAC all-star and a Cougar MVP in 1985.

He has coached a variety of sports in the Southwest and is a school superintendent with the Chinook School Division.

Benesh will be replaced by Regina’s Jeremy Sundeen as President. The 13-member board also includes Swift Current’s Andrew Herrick, the current coach of the Swift Current Comp. Ardens senior girls basketball team.

Benesh recently accepted the position of chairperson for the 2019 Western Canada Games in Swift Current.
