The Swift Current Broncos announced today they have acquired 2001-born defenceman Eric Van Impe and a 2025 seventh-round pick from the Seattle Thunderbirds in exchange for 2002-born defenceman Chase Lacombe and a 2025 fifth-round pick.

Van Impe, from Calgary, is a four-year veteran of the Western Hockey League with 178 career regular season games under his belt. Originally drafted 30th overall by the Spokane Chiefs in 2016, the 6’3’’, right-shot defenceman began his WHL career with the Medicine Hat Tigers, registering 10 goals and 26 assists in 151 games.

After one game with Medicine Hat this season, Van Impe was traded to Seattle where he recorded two goals and six assists in 27 games.

Lacombe, from Moose Jaw, was acquired from the Edmonton Oil Kings in August of 2018 and appeared in 60 games for the Broncos, scoring two goals and four assists.

The Broncos now have the maximum three overage players as Van Impe joins goaltender Isaac Poulter and forward Cole Nagy.
