Broncos take road point in Medicine Hat

The Swift Current Broncos losing streak reached six games, but they were able to earn a road point in a 5-4 overtime loss to the Medicine Hat Tigers on Tuesday. Special teams were the difference as the Tigers scored three power play goals and the Broncos finished without a goal on four man-advantages.

The game was tied 1-1 after one period on a Mathew Ward breakaway goal before Owen MacNeil tied the game for the Tigers on the power play.

The two teams combined for five goals in the second period as the Broncos led 4-3 after 40 minutes. Youngsters Brady Birnie, Connor Hvidston, and Rylan Gould all scored their first career WHL goals for the Broncos. The Tigers replied with power play goals from Bogdans Hodass and Corson Hopwo.

Teague Patton scored for the Tigers midway through the third period and Lukas Svejkovsky scored 2:17 into overtime to clinch the win.

Reid Dyck fell to 0-2-1-0 with 30 saves on 35 shots. Garin Bjorklund earned the win with 26 saves to improve to 2-3-0-0.

The Broncos improved to 2-4-2-0, while the Tigers improved to 3-3-0-1.
After four consecutive road games, the Broncos will host the Calgary Hitmen on Friday at 7 p.m.

Bronco Bits: forwards Josh Davies and Mathew Ward, goaltender Reid Dyck, and defenseman Owen Pickering were all named players to watch by NHL Central Scouting in the preliminary rankings for the 2022 NHL Entry Draft earlier in the day.
