Broncos blowout Tigers in preseason finale

The Swift Current Broncos closed out the preseason on a winning note with an 8-2 victory over the host Medicine Hat Tigers on Saturday .

The winless Broncos led 2-1 after two periods before exploding in the third period for six goals to close out the preseason with an emphatic victory. Veteran Isaac Poulter got the Broncos into the win column with 26 saves. Zach Zahara took the loss with seven saves on 14 shots. James Venne worked 30:24 and allowed one goal on 13 shots.

Josh Filmon led the Broncos with two goals and an assist and Raphael Pelletier added three assists. Josh Davies scored twice, Mathew Ward and Brady Birnie each chipped in a goal and an assist, while Rayan Bettahar and Sam McGinley each added two helpers from the blueline.

Rylan Gould and Braeden Lewis also scored for the Broncos. Chase Lacombe, Noah Lamb, Jordan Borysiuk, and Cole Nagy all added assists.

Carlin Dezainde replied for the Tigers with a pair of goals. The Broncos were one-for-six on the power play and killed off all six shorthanded situations.

The Broncos will open the 2021-22 Western Hockey League regular season on Friday when they host the Tigers at 7 p.m.
