The South West Athletic Conference held its golf championship at the Rock Creek Golf and Country Club in Shaunavon on Wednesday as high school golfers battled to advance to provincials.
Three Swift Current Comp. Ardens grabbed the three female spots at provincials, led by Mia Riegel, who won the event by six strokes with a score of 99. Caitlin McGregor placed second with a 105 and Ashlynn Meyer was third with a 109.
On the boys side, the Swift Current Colts took the top three spots, while a Frontier golfer grabbed the fourth spot at provincials.
Makstr McIntyre opened his high school career with a SWAC title with a 77 in Shaunavon. Teammate Logan Lenz was close behind with an 80 and Ayden Ross followed with an 84. Gull Lake’s Carter Girodat placed fourth with an 86 but is unable to attended provincials. Frontier’s Cashton Carleton finished in a three-way tie for fifth with an 88 to grab the final spot on the SWAC team.
Ponteix’s Carter Lamotte and Gull Lake’s Will Kirwan also carded 88s on the day.
The SHSAA Provincial Golf Championships will be held on September 24-25 in Rosthern.
