Coward earns first WHL win; two-point outing for Arntsen

Swift Current’s Chase Coward earned his first career win in the Western Hockey League with an epic upset victory over the Edmonton Oil Kings on Saturday.

The Oil Kings had only lost once in regulation in 20 previous games, while the Red Deer Rebels were riding a 13-game losing streak and 30 points behind in the standings entering the contest.

Coward made 24 saves on 26 shots to lead the Rebels to their third win of the season. The 6’2’’ netminder now has a 2.51 goals against average and a .917 save percentage in two appearances this season.

Elsewhere in the WHL on Saturday, Swift Current’s Reed Jacobson had one assist for the Spokane Chiefs in an 8-3 win over Seattle. Swift Current defenseman Mac Gross also had a plus-two rating in the victory.

Dinsmore’s Joe Arntsen finished with two assists and a plus-three rating in a 6-3 win for the Lethbridge Hurricanes over the Medicine Hat Tigers. The 6’3’’ defenseman now has seven point in 21 games this season.
