Six Southwest skaters selected in SJHL Bantam Draft

Six skaters from four different Southwest centres were selected in the 2020 Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League Bantam Draft on Friday.

A pair of teammates were selected in the opening round of the six-round affair. Kyle’s Rylan Williams was selected eighth overall by the La Ronge Ice Wolves. Williams was second on the Swift Current Pure Chem Bantam Broncos this season with 66 points in 31 regular season games. Williams increased his production in the post-season with eight points in three games. The 5’8’’ forward was an 11th round pick of the Lethbridge Hurricanes in the 2020 Western Hockey League Bantam Draft.

Williams was followed by Swift Current’s Carter Herman, who went ninth overall to the Yorkton Terriers. Herman finished the regular season with 39 points in 27 games on the Broncos blueline. He added two assists in three playoff outings. Herman was a fourth-round pick of the Regina Pats in the WHL Bantam Draft.

After a quiet second round for the Southwest, Shaunavon’s Jace Bymoen was selected with the final pick of the third round, 36th overall, by the Battlefords North Stars. Bymoen registered 39 points in 29 regular season games with the Broncos. He added two assists in three playoff contests.

Tompkins’ Brayden Sumner was selected in the fourth round, 39th overall, by the Notre Dame Hounds. Sumner was third in team scoring with 52 points in 31 games. He added three points in three playoff appearances.

Defenseman Ryder Knutson was also drafted in the fourth round, 44th overall by the Ice Wolves as he joined teammate Rylan Williams with the La Ronge team. Knutson was second in scoring amongst AA Broncos blueliners with 27 points in 30 regular season games.

The final Southwest skater selected was Swift Current’s Anthony Wilson when he went 64th overall to the Kindersley Klippers in the sixth round. Wilson posted 27 points in 29 games with the Northern Alberta Bantam Prep team in the CSSHL this season. He added four points in two playoffs outings. Wilson will suit up for the Moose Jaw Warriors in the Saskatchewan Under-18 AAA Hockey League next season. He was a fourth round pick of the Victoria Royals in the WHL Bantam Draft.

Also drafted was Tyson Yaremko (Saskatoon), who is a Swift Current Broncos draft pick who will suit up for the Swift Current Under-18 AAA Legionnaires next season. Yaremko was drafted 48th overall by the Battlefords North Stars after registering 76 points in 31 games with the Saskatoon Stallions in the Saskatchewan Bantam AA Hockey League. The Broncos selected Yaremko in the fourth round of the 2020 WHL Bantam Draft.
