Broncos falter in Lethbridge

The Swift Current Broncos were only able to score once on 42 shots in a 5-1 loss to the host Lethbridge Hurricanes Wednesday.

The Hurricanes scored the only goal of the first period when Giorgio Estephan notched his 24th goal of the season.

The Broncos evened the game 7:10 into the second period when Conner Chaulk found the back of the net on the power play. Ryan Vandervlis gave the home team a second lead late in the second period.

Vandervlis added an insurance goal in the third period, followed by a goal from Jordy Bellerive for a 4-1 Lethbridge lead. Zak Zborosky added another goal for the Hurricanes to close the scoring.

Jorday Papirny allowed five goals on 38 shot to drop to 14-13-1-1. Stuart Skinner made 41 saves to improve to 21-13-3-2.

The Broncos finished one-for-three on the power play while holding the Hurricanes scoreless on two man-advantages.

The Broncos dropped to 25-14-3-5, while the Hurricanes improved to 25-15-4-3.

The Broncos are back at home Saturday to host the Eastern Conference leading Regina Pats at 7 p.m. at the Credit Union iplex.
