Four Swift Current United Soccer Club teams participated in the SaskTel S4L Indoor Youth Six-Aside Provincial Championship in Regina over the weekend.
The United U17 Girls won gold and the Fair Play Award at Provincials.
They won their opening match 2-0 over FC Regina on Friday. They added a 1-0 win over QC United on Saturday. They wrapped up an unbeaten round robin with a 2-0 win over Moose Jaw FC.
The U17 Girls took on FCR in Sunday’s championship match and won 4-3 in penalty kicks. Tenille Willows, Jaycee Berggren, and Alexis Keller scored in regulation. Swift Current got goals from Willows, Berggren, and Olivia Koebel in penalty kicks as well. Goalkeeper Jasmine Temoshawsky held FCR to two goals on five shots in penalty kicks.
Striker Jaycee Berggren was named the tournament Most Valuable Player.
The U19 Girls also won gold at Provincials.
They won their opener 6-1 over the Kindersley Storm on Friday evening. They tied the Meridian Rustlers 1-1 on Saturday. The U19 Girls closed out the round robin with a 1-0 win over Saskatoon Hollandia.
They met Moose Jaw FC in the semi-final and advanced with a 3-0 victory. They defeated the Meridian Rustlers 4-1 in the championship match to win gold.
Swift Current’s MJ Anderson scored all four goals in the championship match and was named the tournament MVP.
The U15 United Girls made a playoff appearance at Provincials.
They tied their opener 0-0 against QC United Soccer. They also tied 0-0 against the SUSC Fusion on Saturday morning.
The U15 Girls wrapped up the round robin with a 5-0 win over Saskatoon Hollandia. They took on FC Regina in the semi-final and lost 4-1 when Heidi Spetz scored the lone goal.
The U15 United Boys missed the playoffs with a 1-2 record at Provincials.
They dropped their opener 6-1 to Yorkton United FC. They rebounded on Saturday with a 3-2 win over Prince Albert Celtic. They were eliminated in a 3-2 loss to FCR United on Saturday afternoon.
