Southwest skaters headed for Skate Canada Challenge

A pair of Southwest figure skaters will take part in the 2020 Skate Canada Challenge in Edmonton this week. Gull Lake’s Kiara Slabik and Vanguard’s Rylee Finlay will represent Saskatchewan amongst over 500 athletes from across Canada from November 27 – December 1.

Slabik will be one of three Saskatchewan skaters in Novice Ladies competition. Finlay will be one of three Saskatchewan skaters in Pre-Novice Ladies action.

The Skate Canada Challenge is the only qualifying event for novice, junior and senior skaters to earn entries to the 2020 Canadian Tire National Skating Championships, taking place in Mississauga, Ont., from January 13-19, 2020. Skaters qualified for the 2020 Skate Canada Challenge by advancing through their local sectional championships.

This event will also see the crowning of the 2020 Pre-Novice National Champions in men, women, pairs and ice dance.
