The Swift Current Broncos announced the addition of two new faces and four departing players during a hectic Western Hockey League trade deadline day.
In the Broncos biggest move of deadline day, the club acquired overage goaltender Jordan Papirny and a fourth round draft pick in 2018 from the Brandon Wheat Kings in exchange for 19-year-old veteran goaltender Travis Child, 19-year-old defenceman Kade Jensen, plus a second round draft pick in 2019 and a fifth round pick in 2018.
Papirny posted a 16-5 postseason record for the Wheat Kings last season when Brandon won the WHL Championship. This year he has a 13-11-1-0 record and a 3.24 goals against average plus a .906 save percentage.
To make room for the overage net minder, the Broncos sent 20-year-old Calvin Spencer to the Vancouver Giants in exchange for a conditional ninth round pick in the 2017 WHL Bantam Draft.
Swift Current also sent a fifth round 2018 draft pick to the Portland Winterhawks to acquire rookie defenceman Jake Hobson. Hobson has only appeared in 18 games this season, recording a single assist and eight penalty minutes.
On Monday, the Broncos previously announced they acquired overage forward Ryley Lindgren from the Lethbridge Hurricanes and a sixth round pick in the 2018 WHL Bantam Draft in exchange for 15-year-old prospect Carson Dyck and a third round pick in the 2018 draft.
