Strong performances turned in during opening night of 2019 CCA Finals Rodeo

Shayana Moen from Elrose had a 12.86 second run in the Ladies Barrel Racing Event during day one of the CCA Finals Rodeo in Swift Current on Wednesday to sit second after day one.

Southwest barrel racers find themselves in the running for top spot in the Canadian Cowboys’ Association 2019 Finals Rodeo following the opening performance on Wednesday night.

Valerie Gillespie from Duchess, AB leads the field after a 12.82 second run to earn her 40 championship points. Shayana Moen from Elrose earned the runner up spot at 30 points for a 12.86 second performance. Waldeck’s Mallory Mayert took third place in 12.88 seconds to collect 20 championship points. Bailee Humphrey from Eastend was sixth in 13.15 seconds, Cadillac’s Brooke Lang had a seventh place run in 13.21 seconds, Haley Glasrud from Shaunavon finished eighth in 13.25 seconds.

Lancer’s Chad Hartman made an opening performance statement in the bull riding event, topping the field with an 82 point ride. Hartman was the tenth ranked competitor in the field, but came up with a huge opening night win to collect 40 championship points and an early lead on the rest of the competitors.
