WCSG: locals to watch on day seven as track and field gets underway

The 2019 Western Canada Summer Games will ramp back up on Thursday as track and field debuts, and a total of 11 local athletes take part in three different sports.

Kelsey Rokochy, Dawson Schultz, and Ethan Murdoch will all suit up for Saskatchewan in Baseball against Alberta at 2 p.m. at Mitchell Field to continue the three-team triple round robin. They will also face Manitoba at 6 p.m. at Mitchell Field.

Saskatchewan had a tough opening day on Wednesday with a 10-5 loss to Alberta and and a 12-2 setback against Manitoba.

Swift Current’s Abby Sauder and Avery Tonnies will suit up for Saskatchewan in Female Indoor Volleyball against the Yukon Territory at 9 a.m. at the Innovation Credit Union iplex. Saskatchewan will also face Manitoba at 8 p.m.

They won their opening match on Wednesday evening over Northwest Territories (25-19, 25-19, 25-15).

Shaye Wall will also be on the iplex floor at 11 a.m. in Male Indoor Volleyball against the Northwest Territories and against Manitoba at 8 p.m. Saskatchewan won their opening match over Yukon (25-18, 25-14, 25-14) on Wednesday.

All five Southwest athletes will be in action in Athletics at the Swift Current Comprehensive High School.

Madison Lawrence will race in the 400 Metres Para Sport Finals at 6:45 p.m.

Hunter Berg will follow in the Boys 400 Metres Para Sport Finals at 6:55 p.m.

Scott Joseph will take part in the Boys 100 Metre Dash at 3:30 p.m. The event Final will follow at 6:10 p.m.

Kalea Sauder will get her Games underway at 5 p.m. in Triple Jump.

The day will wrap up for Southwest athletes at 7 p.m. when Joseph and Leader’s Jackson Sitter take part in Triple Jump.
