The Swift Current United Soccer Club was the top entry at a weekend tournament in Regina as they were awarded the Challenge Cup at the tournament hosted by the Queen City Soccer Club.
The club finished with two gold medals, one silver, and two bronze medals to tie with the host club for the most points at the three-day event, which featured 53 teams in total.
A pair of Swift Current United teams finished in the top three of the eight-team U11 Boys Division.
The United Strikers finished unbeaten in five matches to win gold at the Challenge Cup.
They opened the tournament on Friday with a 5-2 win over Saskatoon’s Eastside Leipzig. Saturday, they defeated Regina’s FCR Slate 2-0 and then tied QC Black 2-2.
The United Strikers faced their club mates in the semi-final and defeated United Roma 3-0. They had a rematch with QC in the championship match and won 4-0 to claim gold.
The United Roma Boys won three of four games to place third. They opened the tournament with a 2-1 win over QC United Green. Saturday they defeated the Weyburn L’il Black Devils 2-0 and blanked Yorkton United FC 2-0 to reach the playoffs.
The Border Creek U13 Girls, featuring players from Lloydminster and Swift Current, won gold as well as they improved their results throughout the tournament.
The U13 Girls lost their opener 2-0 to the Weyburn Red Devils on Saturday morning. They tied QC United 1-1 later in the day.
Sunday, the U13 Girls defeated QC United and then blanked Weyburn 4-0 to secure the title.
The U17 United Girls won silver after coming out on top of their opening three matches in Regina.
They opened the tournament with a 3-0 victory over Regina FCR on Friday evening. Swift Current followed up with a 3-0 win over QC United on Saturday and then edged Saskatoon Hollandia 1-0 to conclude the round robin.
The U17 United Girls lost the rematch 1-0 to Hollandia in the gold medal match to bring home silver.
The U13 Boys also placed third in Regina with one win and two losses. They won their opener 4-2 over Regina FCR Manchester United. Saturday, they fell 3-1 to QC United and 3-1 to Yorkton United.
