The Regina Rebels scored a goal a period to earn a 3-0 win over the visiting Swift Current Diamond Energy Wildcats on Saturday afternoon.
The win gives the Rebels a 1-0 lead in their best-of-five Saskatchewan Female Midget AAA Hockey League semi-final series. Game two swings to Swift Current for game two on Sunday evening, with puck drop at the Fairview Arena at 7:15 p.m.
Regina took a 1-0 first period lead on a goal from Samantha Sichkaruk. Rebels forward Jordan Fry scored a shorthanded goal to give Regina a 2-0 second period advantage. Regina added a third period marker from Neena Brick to put the game out of reach.
Wildcats goaltender Amaya Giraudier stopped 32 of 35 shots in the defeat. Regina net minder Chantel Weller earned the shoutout with a light 11 save performance.
