Swift Current’s Brody Alexandre figures to play a key role with Saskatchewan at the 2018 Baseball Canada Canada Cup Championship in Moncton/Dieppe, New Brunswick.
Alexandre started at third base and hit clean-up at the 17U National Championship in a 7-3 loss to Ontario to open the tournament on Wednesday. He finished one-for-three with a double in the fifth inning.
Saskatchewan led the game 3-0 after five scoreless innings from starter Connor Sparks. Ontario got to the bullpen for four runs in the sixth inning and three more in the seventh inning.
Saskatchewan will be back on the field on Thursday to face Quebec (2-0) in the morning and British Columbia (0-1) in the evening.
Alexandre, one of only two 15-year-old players on Team Saskatchewan, finished fifth in the Saskatchewan Premier Midget AAA Baseball League with a .413 average and was fourth with 31 runs batted in during his rookie season with the Swift Current Midget 57’s.
